The Cold Open
Prior to his amazing speech, the show showed an amazing cold open.
Alec Baldwin amazed us all by coming back with yet another amazing impersonation of Donald Trump.
The cold open parodied the Christmas classic “It is a Wonderful life” into “It’s a Wonderful Trump”. Trump impersonated by Alec Baldwin wished that he had never become President.
Well we all at some time wishes that was true.
The impersonation was so on point that many famous people and magazine tweeted about it
A tweet by The Daily Beast says
“#SNL‘s “It’s a Wonderful Trump” presents an alternate history where Trump lost”

All his administrative members were shown living a better life by not working for Donald Trump.
In the alternate world, Ben Stiller played Michael Cohen. He was living a happy life where he never went to the prison.
Stiller makes an entry into a meeting with the Vice president Mike Pence alongside Attorney General Jeff Sessions. He made a funny entry by saying
“That’s right, it’ Michael Cohan, Attorney in Law and also sometimes not at law”
He goes on saying
“We’ve got a real problem here, Jeff. You know how much evidence I have in my office? I’m Donald Trump’s lawyer. I have a whole hard drive that’s just labeled, ‘Yikes’”
The skit was amazingly performed by the actors.
The Christmas Party sketch was concluded with Donald Trump wanting to be a President after all. With that being said, he came back to reality.
Ideal Christmas
Another highlight of the show is when Matt and Cecily Strong share a cozy and romantic moment. While sipping wine, they talk about the best Christmas they had. But that escalated soon where we see a flashback of their kids waking them up at 5:40 AM and screaming. It was a true and hilarious depiction of a normal family during Christmas.
Surprise Appearance
Let’s not forget about the recent ex of Ariana Grande, Pete Davidson appearance
He made a short appearance on the show after his controversial Instagram post saying that he did not “want to live on this earth anymore.” The post was deleted along with his account.
It was reported that NYPD had confronted him to make sure he was ok. But his appearance on the SNL show put into rest all the speculations that were being made about him.

Hey @nbcsnl, make sure someone is with Pete Davidson right this minute and please encourage him to get the help he needs. Mental health is not a joking matter & this is too important to not step in to support one of your own #SNL

Miley Cyrus made a heartfelt and emotional performance. She sang the cover of John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War is over). Along with him were famous musician Mark Ronson and Sean One Lennon.
Miley Cyrus also performed with Mark Ronson on the song “Nothing breaks like a heart”. The singer wore a jacket with no bra, which was a bold and brave thing to do. People tweeted funny responses

The search for the host
Last but not the least, since the Oscars are approaching the quest to find its host is on. Kevin Hart was supposed to host the 2019 Oscars but he was told to delete some old tweets that were homophobic. The actors refused to do so and hence back off from this opportunity.
So SNL made a video of actors auditioning for it. Matt Damon again proved his versatility by impersonating Chris Hemsworth and Matthew McConaughey. Along with him, Kate McKinnon impersonated Michelle wolf. The acting by all the amazing actors was on point.
Matt Damon was the perfect host for the show. People were so happy to see him on the show.
Mara Reinstein, a movie critic for the US Daily tweeted
“What a delightful touching #snl monologue from Matt Damon! Shout out to my mom and dad, who let me stay up late to watch Madonna host the show in 1985. (This will only make sense you’ve seen monologue; my parents don’t know Twitter)”
